Episodes from a Colonial Present - A postcolonial comic
R106
For this collaborative comic project seven authors and seven artists from Mexico, Namibia, China, Canada, India, Germany and the Basque Country have come together to explore contemporary everyday coloniality in various forms in the form of comic stories.
In keeping with the non-commercial publisher's motto Daraja Press "Reappropriating the past, questioning the present and inventing the future" is what five comic stories and four comic collages are all about:
- the Traces of the colonial past in every possible corner of our lives today and uncover the colonial violence inherent in global inequality.
- On the other hand, the articles also shed light on the decolonising potential of everyday struggles to recognise and make reparations for the effects of European colonialism - in all its ambivalence and contradictions.
Many of the stories are inspired by the family histories and activist experiences of the authors, who live in Graphic novel style are told. Each article has a bibliography, as the creative stories are based on scientific research.
