Film Screening with Discussion in German

The documentary Inner Circle – Outer Circle brings the voices of Black people in Northern Germany into public awareness. With a factual and clear aesthetic, it portrays their everyday experiences of racism, microaggressions, and exclusion—often through statements like “But you speak German so well!” which, as a supposed compliment, convey a sense of othering.

In the film, three protagonists, Minerve Laurielle Amaeze, Kaline Charnelle Anago, and Suraij Mailitafi, share experiences from different stages of life and backgrounds, describing how they have encountered prejudice, distancing, and subtle devaluation. At the same time, they reveal their paths of resistance and demonstrate how they use language, identity, and self-confidence as tools for empowerment.
