The increasing public debate on colonialism and its aftermath in Germany has led to calls for a restructuring of German remembrance policy in the form of a “third pillar” alongside the examination of National Socialism and the GDR. This has been interpreted in part as questioning the singularity of the Holocaust and as an attack on established remembrance policy. In the panel discussion, we would like to discuss the question of what a politics of remembrance in Germany should look like that deals with the historical crimes of both National Socialism (and the
fortdauernden Antisemitismus) als auch des deutschen Kolonialismus (und des fortdauernden Rassismus) auseinandersetzt und dabei ihren Unterschieden und Ähnlichkeiten gerecht wird.
